We're getting a LOT of new users coming to this subreddit asking for the download link, or what Sad Satan is, or just generic questions about the game. Instead of always responding to each post, I thought we'd make one, centralized post outlining everything we know. As such, I'll keep updating this post as new information develops.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
June 25th - Obscure Horror Corner uploads Part 1 of his Sad Satan playthrough to both Youtube and Reddit, claiming the game came from a mysterious source on the Deep Web. He provided the link he used to download the game 'one or two months ago.' The link is 'of course' dead now
June 27th - Part 2 of OHC's Sad Satan playthrough is uploaded to Youtube
June 30th - Part 3 of OHC's Sad Satan playthrough is uploaded to Youtube
July 1st - Kotaku publishes an article discussing the game Sad Satan, with a few interview snips with Jamie (Obscure Horror Corner guy... also /u/86hachiroku here on reddit)
July 1st - /u/86hachiroku expresses in a thread on this subreddit, that the game is free of gore and cp
July 3rd - Part 4 of OHC's Sad Satan playthrough is uploaded to Youtube
July 4th - Part 5 of OHC's Sad Satan playthrough is uploaded to Youtube
July 5th - It is discovered that the original download link from the deep web that was provided by Obscure Horror Corner could never have actually existed. The link he provided had characters in the address that are not valid for .onion links (namely, he used a '9' which is not a valid base32 character). People begin doubting the validity of the game in the first place, figuring that OHC made the game himself. There are lots of theories surrounding the creating of the original Sad Satan game/videos
July 7th - An anonymous post appears on 4chan's /x/ board (at 13:27 EST), claiming to be the person who originally provided the game to OHC (signing his posts only as -ZK). He tells everyone that OHC had not been showing anyone the 'real' Sad Satan, and provides a Clear Web link to download the game. People begin downloading it like mad, only to find that there is cp and gore obviously right there in the game files. There's even some gruesome gore right on the title screen
July 7th - OHC provided an updated statement to Kotaku(at 13:45 EST), claiming that he provided a broken link originally because he knew there was cp and gore in it, and didn't want to spread it around
July 7th-July 9th - People who have downloaded the 'real' Sad Satan game have been subject to computer crashes, odd computer behavior, and even failure to boot at all. Methods have ranged from running the executable directly from a Windows machine, to using a virtual machine within Windows, to even booting from a completely external source and playing the game in another VM. All of these methods have resulted in a bricked OS, or undesirable behavior of the user's computer
July 9th - The Sad Satan community (namely, /u/blindstark ) carefully downloaded the game, replaced the gore and cp images with other, mundane pictures, and pulled the rest of the game files into Terror Engine, and released a second executable. This executable does not appear to harm the user's machine in any way
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SAD SATAN
Sad Satan, as you saw it on OHC, does not exist as an available download. There is strong evidence (compiled by /u/_cooi) that OHC made the original game himself, but there is still no definitive proof of that, yet.
The game that you've seen other Youtuber playthroughs of, is a copycat created for who knows what purpose. It could be anything from just wanting to screw with a bunch of people, to an actual malicious attack against as many people as they can get to. This version has violent gore and child porn in it. Stay as far away from this version as possible.
A clean version of the game was uploaded by our good friend /u/blindstark . Keep in mind that even this version is not the version that OHC played on his channel.
Hopefully, this will keep the 'give me link pls' posts down, and will prevent people from getting in to trouble. We will NOT, NOT, I repeat, NOT share the link to the original 'real' version of Sad Satan, as that would be knowingly disseminating unlawful material.
